The standard MACD uses fixed fast and slow periods regardless of what the market is doing. The same settings that work in a slow trending market will be too sensitive in a fast one and too slow in a quiet one. The indicator cannot adjust to conditions, so you are always working around it. Smart MACD solves this with an R-squared adaptive engine that measures how strongly price is trending in real time and shifts the calculation accordingly.

When the market is trending with conviction, the adaptive engine tightens and the MACD responds faster. When conditions are mixed or unclear, it widens and becomes more conservative. You get an indicator that fits the current environment rather than one that requires you to manually switch settings between market types. On top of that, ADX and histogram momentum filters add a second layer of confirmation so signals only appear when the market has passed multiple checks.

How To Use It

Add the indicator and use the default R² period of 20. The adaptive behaviour works automatically and requires no switching between timeframes or market types. When a signal appears, the market has already been confirmed as trending by both the R-squared measure and ADX. Use the 200 EMA badge to confirm direction and set the strong cross alert for high-conviction, trend-aligned entries.
