Smart MACD

WHAT IS IT?

The MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) measures the difference between two exponential moving averages to identify momentum shifts and trend direction. Standard MACD uses fixed EMA lengths and fires signals on every crossover, including many false signals in ranging markets. It is one of the most widely used momentum oscillators in technical analysis.

INDICATOR PRIME IMPROVEMENTS

Smart MACD replaces the standard EMA engine with a second-order R² adaptive filter. The adaptive coefficient adjusts in real time based on trend linearity: faster in strong trends, heavily smoothed in choppy conditions. Cross signals require two bars of histogram momentum confirmation before firing, an ADX chop filter suppresses signals below the threshold, a minimum-separation guard blocks micro-crossovers, and a cooldown prevents signal clustering. A 200 EMA trend badge marks the highest-quality crosses.

HOW TO USE

Wait for the MACD line to cross its signal line from below zero (bullish) or above zero (bearish) while ADX is above 20 and the histogram has been building for at least two bars. The ▲+ signal, confirmed by the 200 EMA, is the primary entry trigger. Avoid signals during flat histogram phases or when the chop background is active.

KIT CONFLUENCE

In the Oscillator Kit, combine Smart MACD with Ultra Stochastic for dual momentum confirmation: both histograms building on the same side simultaneously raises signal confidence. Pair with Aroon Plus: if Aroon Up is also climbing while Smart MACD crosses bullishly, the setup has both price momentum and time-based trend strength backing.
